img_7547 img_7568 img_7652 img_8332 img_8347 img_8371 This young Black-Tailed Deer was rescued on April 25 by a man who saw it on the side of Trout Gulch Rd. He waited for two hours for the mother to return. When she did not, he transported the fawn to NAR. The fawn is currently being bottle fed every 3-4 hours from 8am until midnight, and as soon the bottle feedings are down to two a day, the fawn will be transferred to a deer enclosure in Boulder Creek. We have found that it's better for fawns to be transferred as early as possible to provide them with more space and reduce their contact with humans. As fawns mature, the rehabber stops handling them and bottle-feeds them through a wooden feeding-station in the fence so the fawns can't see the rehabber and stops associating people with food. We always try to have at least two fawns per enclosure to reduce their focus on humans. img_9036 img_9045 img_9075 img_9077 img_9087 img_9123 img_9152 img_9185 img_9379 img_9417 img_9489 img_9496 img_9652 img_7547 img_7597 img_7652 img_8371 img_9075 img_9077 img_9489 img_9652 IMG_3181 IMG_3191 IMG_3222 IMG_3223 IMG_3225 IMG_3227 IMG_3230 IMG_3233 Animal Technician Lupin Egan examines an injured Western Meadowlark @NativeAnimalRescue.
