| Some
babies don't need rescuing....
Most mammals leave their babies while they spend many hours
foraging. Bunnies only feed their babies in the morning and
evening. During the day, rabbit babies are left in the burrow.
Deer leave their newborn fawns alone all day, returning after
dark to nurse them. If you see a cute little spotted fawn
hidden in the grass, PLEASE DON'T TOUCH IT!! The mother hid
it there. Newborn fawns have no scent and their spots camoflage
them from predators. If a human or dog touches it, they leave
their scent on the fawn, making it easy prey.
